For sure, we are social creatures who gravitate towards a social structure that is often based on a hierarchy. Yet, within that there is a need for cooperation and interdependence. We survive and thrive by working together. That works for most of us. However, there is a small percentage of psychopaths who have a need for power over others, driven by a lack of empathy. Many remain lawful and become CEOs of large companies or consultant surgeons (I’m not just riffing, there is data supporting the job choices of intelligent psychopaths).
