‘So how long do you think Angela Cupple will be off sick?’

Shiva catapulted a piece of rubber across the office from the end of a plastic ruler. ‘I do not know, Natalie. I am not god.’

‘But it’s since that talk with you. It’s pretty damn weird. I was expecting you to go off sick not the Great Almighty One.’

‘That is one of the problems of expectation.’

‘Yeah, right. Hey, listen. Me and a few mates are going up to London tomorrow night to Escape from Samsara. Fancy coming? Couple of pills. Come on, it’ll be a laugh.’

‘Did you say, “Escape from Samsara?”’

‘Just what you need, I reckon.’

‘I did not know you found it so easy here. But I cannot believe you are ready. And when you are, you should not need pills.’

‘Oh, don’t be such a wuss. You sound like my dad. Chill out a bit.’

‘A little bhang. maybe. But it is not necessary. It is all about karmic law.’

‘Alex what are you going on about? What is all this about, bhang and karma? Takes me back to my travels round India. Remember having some bhang cookies in Jaiselmer and a couple of lassis in Pushkar. Wow! They were amazing.’ She prodded Shiva in the ribs. ‘You should go to…
