My Unreliable Past

It is never good to know what lies ahead. Even if you close your eyes and, for one moment, assume it is possible. Show me a Tarot reader and I’ll show you my ass, heading for the vanishing point.. I would never have gone to Birmingham, on that cold and sleet-filled morning, if I had known my destiny wasn’t Birmingham at all, but a whole new world that lay apart from my wildest dreams. If I had known, I probably would have never ventured out. It was nothing I’d signed up for. And I’d have remained shuttered and safe in my home town. And my life would have never begun. So raise a glass with me to celebrate lives of the unknown. And the opportunity of new worlds, far beyond the other side of any dream.

Chapter One

Seasons Out of Time

From a radio Terry Jacks was bleating, ‘Goodbye to you, my trusted friend…’ and the heavy feeling in my gut suddenly got heavier. Even Terry Jacks seemed to know that this was a big deal. Something that I may not return from. At least someone sympathised.
