Look out who’s coming to 10 Downing Street
Few people will be sad to see the back of Boris Johnson, although his long goodbye will be consuming the rest of summer. Few, that is, other than those who prioritise bargain-bin charisma over moral integrity in politics. Yet we have little to celebrate in what is to come. There may be less of Johnson’s chaos, less inconsistency in values and policy, yet with the two candidates on offer a definite swing to the far right is promised. And what good is ideological consistency if it is solely designed to further the gap between rich and poor, and keep the working person’s neck firmly under the boot of capitalist oppressors.
In poll position for the keys to number 10 Downing Street is Thatcher wannabe Liz Truss. We can rest easy on the resolution to the current railway workers dispute. Mick Lynch has been warned. Will she be offering a dazzling display of leadership, using skills as a mediator to bring the two sides together and settle the dispute on some form of compromise? Well, we know the answer already. She’s made her position perfectly clear. Rather than seek a solution to the current issues she has proudly proclaimed she will just create new legislation to prevent them from striking. How creative.
