Supper’s Ready

An illustrated version

Today, I stumbled on these fantastic illustrations. Supper’s Ready by Genesis from the Foxtrot album has to be one of the best epics from the seventies — now called prog — alongside others such as, Close to the Edge by Yes and Awaken.

I’ve seen a few illustrated versions on YouTube and this has to be among the best. These pictures are wonderful, capturing the heart and soul of the music. It visualises all the beauty, as well as the more dark and sinister aspects of it.

As with most of them, they use the original studio version of the music with Peter Gabriel singing his heart out. But also check out the version on the live album, Seconds Out. Phil Collins does a fine job replacing Gabriel. More recently Steve Hackett with his band, Genesis Revisted has given us wonderful live re-interpretations of this song that has now become a true classic. His extended guitar soloing at the end is magnificent.

My prime reason for putting it on here is to allow me easy access to it when I feel in a need of a top-up of this music along with this visual treat. But I don’t want to be selfish about it. Please, be my guest. Sit back and enjoy… the supper of the Mighty One. I really believe we’ll be listening to this music one…
