Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely

So the adage goes. And those who seek power, however petty the position may be, are generally those more likely to be seduced by its trappings and, therefore, more vulnerable to corruption. Corruption need not necessarily be the large scale stuff, like corporate embezzlement etc. Corruption also includes the casual, low grade ill treatment of staff – those people who may be psychologically or emotionally abused or manipulated by the manager turned bully.

A corrupt manager is one who serves his or her own ego or needs before the needs of the service and manipulates their staff to this end. In other words, a Poundland, office despot. The greatest asset of a service or company is usually its staff. Therefore a manager or team leader must serve the needs of the staff in order to promote the well being and efficiency of the service. Any manager, from first line upwards, carries the responsibility for the well being of the staff they happen to manage. Staff are often dependent on the goodwill and respectful attitude of their manager on whether their working days are to be tolerable and not living…
