The legal parameters are protest not terror

The use of UK counter-terrorism legislation to crush peaceful, political dissent is becoming more and more prevalent. I refer specifically to those committed journalists and activists, protesting against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

But never mind the current cause, never mind which side of the fence your own politics lie, viewed in the longer term, this is a tactic of social and political control, that reaches far beyond any reasonable person’s notion of terrorism, and should be of concern to everyone. The misuse of such draconian powers could be coming to a police station near you.

Different year.

Different protest.

Same legislation.

Same intimidation.

The roll call of journalists and activists who have recently become ensnared in the Terrorism Act 2000–2006, is ever lengthening. And all for having the temerity to speak out against Israel’s current crimes and atrocities against the Palestinian people. They include, Sarah Wilkinson, Richard Medhurst, Richard Barnard, Mick Napier, Tony Greenstein, Asa Winstanley and the Filton 10. This is by no means exhaustive.
