Wave to Wobbler

And hello to seventies prog revival

One of the finest bands to come out of the prog stables in the last couple of decades is the Norwegian band, Wobbler. Unafraid to wear their prog rock influences firmly on their cheesecloth sleeves, they play instruments that were only around in the pre-1975 analogue era. This was my teenage period, and frankly just a kiss away from today (or so it seems). Yet emphasising this aesthetic choice of vintage instrumentation from such a supposedly bygone era, does little to quell my fears of advancing decrepitude. But that’s another wobble entirely.

Wobbler from Norway was first formed in 1999. They were bound by a commitment to honour the legacy of early seventies rock as characterised by a complex type of music now known as progressive rock or prog (which according to Rick Wakeman has since been bought under the counter in plain brown wrappers).

Five albums have been released in fairly languid succession: Hinterland (2005), Afterglow (2009), Rites at Dawn (2011), From Silence to Somewhere (2011) and Dwellers of the Deep (2020). All five albums have been lauded by critics and fans alike; although the last two albums have reached the upper echelons of critical acclaim.
