What occurred on 7th October 2023 was a heinous act that involved a series of atrocities and the killing of many unarmed civilians. Seen in context it was, perhaps, an inevitable consequence, and response, to what had already occurred in this blighted region, over many decades. Although it seems the majority of the murders were the responsibility of Hamas, others were due to the indiscrimate counter offensive of the Israeli military who slaughtered anyone coming in or out of Gaza on that day. Some of those killed were hostages. Others died in their homes as a result of Israeli missiles and rockets fired from tanks.
